Title:Josh Dunne

About

Dunne was raised in a small town called Sullivan, Missouri. Drawing from such diverse influences as Garth Brooks and John Mayer, he says “I really wanted to do something that was not necessarily pop, but more of a pop sensibility and still have that country sense too, because I’m a country boy and always will be.” I asked him what his experience has been like in Nashville over the past two years. “I started doing a lot of writer’s nights and that’s a great way to meet new people and new writers and get their take on things,” he said. “Cause it’s all a learning process and nobody’s going to know how to do it perfectly the first time. So if you’re living out of town and you’re thinking of coming to Nashville, you really have to weigh your options and make sure that you love music enough to really want to do it.” Dunne didn’t take his singing seriously until the age of 15. It was then that he began writing songs and taught himself to play the guitar. I asked Josh if talent is something he considers to be God-given or if it is something that can be learned. He replied “I’d like to think musical ability is a God-given talent. I think everybody’s talents, whether you’re a carpenter or a brick layer or an artist or whatever you do, that’s something that you have been given. So mine’s no different than anybody else’s.”
